A CD player and DAC

The new Saturn MK3 has a new and modern design that matches the rest of the Rega range. With a Dual Wolfson WM8742 DACs and improved digital power supplies, the Saturn MK3 provides an enhanced digital and analog audio experience. With the ability to handle files up to 24bit-192kHz, the Saturn MK3 can be perfectly integrated into any system and is a perfect match for the new Rega Elicit MK5 integrated amplifier.

The Saturn MK3 uses Rega's acclaimed digital-to-analog converter and analog output amplifier technology, coupled with a Wolfson WM8742 digital-to-analog converter ICs. It uses Rega's own CD section power supply, which is the result of the research and development of our reference CD player, together with improved microcontroller and display drivers.

Advanced technology and circuit design

There are two optical inputs, two coaxial inputs and a fully asynchronous USB, as well as an additional 'direct' digital output from the CD playback section. Saturn MK3 uses a high stability master clock and high capacity power supply in the CD circuit, high performance PLL digital interface receiver, isolated digital inputs and high performance power supply architecture in the DAC circuit. Signal switching between CD and DAC functions is performed in the digital-to-analog conversion phase. The signal path for the CD section in CD mode is kept to a minimum.

The DAC USB input has been enhanced with asynchronous operation at sampling rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz with a bitrate of up to 24 bits. The USB input has the same galvanic isolation as that used in the Rega DAC-R. The USB uses dedicated drivers in the computer that provide full ASIO operation, eliminating signal degradation caused by generic Windows-based drivers.
