More musical details

We pioneered the use of toroidal transformers in amplifiers, leading to improved performance. In Edge we take this a step further by using toroidal transformers in opposing symmetry twin. This cancels out electromagnetic interference while offering excellent power and consistent tone no matter how loud it is played.

Unlimited power with absolutely no distortion

Using standard Class A amplifier technology was not efficient enough for the Edge A. Instead, Cambridge added a bias voltage to a traditional Class AB design, reducing distortion to inaudible levels. This unique configuration is called Cambridge class XA, and it also produces less heat and makes the whole system much more efficient.

Pairing any Bluetooth device with the Edge A to stream your music is easy. With aptX HD support, you can play your audio in up to 24-bit / 48kHz quality for an incredibly rich listening experience.

Sonic balance

With Edge A, Cambrdige wanted to create the best possible musical experience, and this means that they have worked to create a clean and natural sound. To achieve this, Cambridge engineers have designed a unique PCB for the Edge A, replacing conventional capacitors with a DC-coupled topology and adding a solid-state volume control. This means that the signal path is perfectly balanced at any volume level.

By removing the capacitors from the signal path, the sound is prevented from being distorted or colored. This technology prevents the delivery of DC power to your speakers by using dedicated servos to insert equal amounts of DC power in opposite directions, thus completely eliminating DC power. With this improvement, the signal is incredibly clean and precise, which significantly reduces coloration of the sound.
