Chord Mojo 2 - The new benchmark for DAC/headphone amplifiers
With the new Mojo 2, Chord Electronics has launched the world's first lossless DSP, which sets a whole new standard for portable sound quality. Again. In the nearly 7 years since its predecessor was created, Rob Watts has re-evaluated, re-imagined and re-engineered the original DAC/headphone amplifier with ground-breaking and world-leading technology.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Unheard of transparency
- Lively, spacious, dynamic and open sound
- UHD DSP
- Excellent volume control
- Great control and frequency range
- Perfect for both laptop and desktop use
- 4 Digital inputs
- Long battery life
- Efficient charging
New technologies and functions
One of the many new features Mojo 2 benefits from is the revolutionary and lossless DSP, which is the first of its kind in the world. This innovative "UHD DSP" is completely transparent, and it allows extensive tone adjustments across the frequency range without degrading the sound quality. This makes the Mojo 2 compatible with the wide range of headphones available today, regardless of their type and sound signature. At the same time, it makes it flexible with different source components and digital file types.
Another new feature is the menu system, which can now be navigated via a fourth button, and brings with it a mute function, four-position crossfeed adjustments, a travel lock button function, plus the completely lossless tone controls.
For even better functionality, the Mojo 2 has also been given a total of four digital inputs, thanks to a new USB-C input. USB-C is available along with optical, coaxial and micro USB, and two 3.5mm mini-jack headphone outputs allow up to two people to listen at the same time. This makes it perfect for long flights.
Better battery and charging
The Mojo 2 also offers a much better battery, which can be charged much faster and with as much as 75% less power loss. It provides a much cooler and more efficient charge, and a better battery life, which is now up to eight hours.
Mojo 2 "Intelligent Desktop Mode" technology has also been improved, now featuring an isolated battery and a redesigned PSU that supports battery-free operation without any loss of sound quality.
Improved transparency
The new DAC/headphone amplifier has now also been DC-coupled with a digital DC servo. It benefits from an improved WTA filter which offers a whopping 40,960 taps using 40 DSP cores. This term is an indicator of how complex the interpolation filter is, and in addition there is also an improved noise shaper, which provides greater depth and detail perception and lower distortion and noise. The new coupling capacitors also mean that it has been possible to achieve a much greater neutrality.
The world's first UHD DSP
The new fully transparent UHD DSP offers an accuracy that no other DSPs are capable of. It uses 104-bit custom DSP core running at 705/768kHz and has extensive internal noise shaping which enables it to deliver complete transparency by maintaining the filtering of ultra-small signals.
The unique UHD DSP also makes it possible to fine-tune across the entire frequency range with 18 steps of adjustment per frequency range (lower bass, midrange, lower treble and treble). The volume control has also been improved from +18 dB to -108 dB, and a new crossfeed function with four settings suddenly brings with it the same spatial effects experienced when listening to speakers.
With the Mojo 2, Chord Electronics have outdone themselves once again, and if you're looking for the very best DAC/headphone amplifier on the market, do yourself a favor and hear the Mojo 2.
