Dynaudio Focus 50 - An advanced active and wireless Hi-Fi system
Focus 50 is the pinnacle of wireless hi-fi. They have all the conveniences of a consumer speaker system with all the heavy duty features of our most prestigious hi-fi speakers. The Focus 50 is an active wireless stereo speaker system with plenty of connectivity options. If you want to fill your room with true audiophile performance without cluttering it with cables, boxes and racks, this speaker is for you.
You can connect via Apple AirPlay 2 from your MacBook, iPad or iPhone; with Google Chromecast from your Android phone, tablet or Chromebook; using Spotify Connect or Tidal Connect from… well, anything with Spotify or Tidal on it. Connect to Roon; stream via Bluetooth. You can even connect your physical digital sources via coaxial or optical digital inputs, your analogue sources (including turntables, 8-track machines and Edison Concert Phonographs) via line-in or a compatible adapter and your network devices via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. What does it mean? That is, if it has been released as a recording, you can listen to it. All. And the sky in high resolution is just a smartphone swipe away.
The Focus 50 is designed for living rooms, not sterile listening caves. It's built for those who want to share great sound with their loved ones. Therefore, the Focus 50 also has built-in WiSA streaming. The Focus 50 connects wirelessly to your TV (and thus to anything else connected to it) and replaces a large AV receiver/cable bundle/equipment rack combo. The only downside? Your cat will no longer be able to warm itself on the amplifier.
Simple setup, powerful performance
We'd be surprised if it took you more than five minutes to go from unboxing to listening. Simply plug the speakers in, launch the included Dynaudio app and follow setup instructions that will get them connected to the network and tailored to your listening preferences. That is all.
The Focus 50 only needs two cables: one for each power socket. This is because there are amplifiers built into it. And it's not just one amplifier per speaker – each unit has its own amplifier that is specifically tuned and optimized to work with that particular unit. No compromises with mismatched amplification, no hassle with component matching, no cables collecting dust. It is a customized system.
Each speaker has three Class-D amplifiers on board: a 110W unit for the Cerotar tweeter, a 280W amplifier for the neodymium midrange and a 280W amplifier for the two Esotec+ bass units, which are operated in parallel. They all come from our partners at Pascal in Copenhagen – the same company that Dynaudio has worked with to create the power plants for our mighty Core professional studio systems. Asking about peak hours? The entire 1000 W. Focus 50s – and your ears – are in good hands.
All that power is handled by sophisticated DSP (digital signal processing) technology – the same type of technology that Dynaudio uses in their Core and LYD pro series. During setup in the app, you can tell the speakers where they are in the room (close to a wall, in a corner or in an open space) and they will optimize their performance for that position. And if you want to take calibration to the next level, there's optional Dirac Live technology for total customization.
Dynaudio has even included custom EQ presets that take into account whether the magnetic grid is installed or not. The speakers register this completely themselves. The speaker's auto-sensing technology understands when the grill is on or off—and the Y-shaped light will briefly glow blue to let you know. Brilliant.
With the Focus 50, you also don't have to fear playing at too high volumes. Dynaudio has designed a specially developed high-pass filter that reduces the woofer's range when the level rises. It prevents damage to the speaker at high volumes, although your neighbors will probably be banging on the wall long before that happens.
Traditional Dynaudio expertise
Dynaudio are always happy to use new flagship hardware throughout their range. The Focus 50 builds heavily on techniques and technologies used in their advanced Contour and Confidence passive hi-fi families.
For example, the Cerotar soft-dome soft-dome tweeter uses Confidence's Hexi's inner dome. It's a smart extra part that sits just behind the playing surface to optimize airflow and minimize unwanted resonances. Behind it sits a strontium carbonate Ferrite+ magnet system to maximize sensitivity. In English it means sweeter, clearer treble, which is easier to listen to for much longer.
Complementing the tweeter is a dedicated midrange (the only one in the Focus range) derived from the award-winning Contour 60i. It is a 15cm unit with a powerful neodymium magnet, a voice coil with fiberglass shaped voice coil and a Dynaudio iconic aluminum voice coil. This lightweight unit uses lightweight magnet and coil materials to give it greater flexibility while maintaining a good grip on the midrange frequencies. And for you, that means Contour-level performance.
The lower part of the base is a pair of 18 cm Esotec+ woofers. They use technology from both Confidence and Contour to deliver a tight and powerful bass. Unlike other Focus models, however, there is a copper coil in the Ferrite+ magnet. That's because, as a pure bass unit, this unit doesn't need to reproduce smooth mid-range tones – and therefore can have more moving mass. Power and control are in focus.
Designed for life
No gimmicks, no nonsense – just pure, stylish Danish design and craftsmanship. From the brushed aluminum anodized cover rings around the units to the discreet Dynaudio logo on top of the speaker grille and the softly glowing light (which changes color to let you know what the speaker is doing), Dynaudio has made sure the Focus 50 looks good when it stands in a real home.
Run your fingers over the beautiful, open-grained blonde wood and walnut wood finishes, or marvel at the glassy lacquer in high-gloss black and high-gloss white. Visualize the shape of the slightly tapered cabinet. Even the back panel has received a special treatment.
The Focus 50 is the ultimate wireless hi-fi system of the highest quality. True audiophile quality with all the benefits of modern digital streaming technology. It's time to listen to something new…
