JBL SDA-2200 - A terrific power amplifier
The JBL SDA-2200 is a dynamic class-G amplifier with a wealth of networking options, audiophile sound and exceptional flexibility. With a full 2 x 200 watts in 8Ω and the first 2 x 50 W in pure class A, the SDA-2200 delivers an absolutely unique power and reliability, where the harmonic distortion is knocked down to a mere 0.001%. Add to that the balanced and single ended inputs, RS232, IP control and Dante™ audio networking and the SDA-2200 is an excellent choice for a wide range of applications.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Dynamic class G amplifier
- Dante™ audio network
- 2 x 200 watts into 8Ω and 1100 watts bridged into 4Ω
- Balanced and single ended inputs
- Trigger in and out
- Ethernet and RS232 control
Powerful and dynamic
The Class G amplifier offers the best characteristics of Class-A and Class-A/B designs. Class-A amplifiers do not suffer from crossover distortion at the lower levels, and at the same time it offers an unusual level of transparency and realism. The problem with a conventional class-A amplifier, however, is that they are not as efficient as class-A/B amplifiers, which in turn suffer from crossover distortion at lower levels, thus clouding spatial detail and transparency.
Conventional Class-A designs do not suffer from crossover distortion and are exceptionally transparent, offering a high level of realism. However, a purely Class A design is extremely inefficient as it will always draw full power even with no signal to amplify, for this reason Class A amplifiers usually offer lower power. Class AB designs are much more common and far more efficient than pure Class A, but they suffer from crossover distortion at low levels, clouding spatial detail and transparency.
Class G offers greater efficiency and transparency with less wasted heat energy than Class A. As a hybrid car engine, Class G implements multiple power supplies instead of just a single supply. The first power supply is of lower power, and within this region the SDA-2200 operates in pure Class A, which has no crossover distortion. If a dynamic signal is received that exceeds the capability of this first power supply, the secondary supply is gradually brought up to full rated power as needed. This makes for a very efficient design as additional power is only used when needed. Modern high-speed silicon allows it to make this switch at speeds far beyond the audio bandwidth.
Flexible
The SDA-2200 features Dante™ audio networking, allowing you to connect to the JBL Synthesis SDR-35 AVR and SDP-55 immersive surround sound processor, as well as other Dante-enabled products over Ethernet-based networks via a Cat5e or Cat 6 cable . Dante audio networking uses standard IP networks to transmit high-quality, uncompressed multi-channel audio with near-zero latency. It is the most flexible, reliable and easy-to-manage audio networking solution available, providing the lowest cost of ownership by dramatically reducing cable and labor costs, as well as eliminating the interference, crosstalk and signal degradation issues associated with analogue cable. The SDA-2200 is capable of receiving high resolution audio via Dante. Signal routing and system configuration with Dante is fast, simple and incredibly flexible. Once the network is configured, signal routing and other system settings are securely stored in the Dante devices themselves, so they are automatically restored if a device is powered on and off.
