With the ND5 XS 2, you get access to Naim's innovative streaming platform, which has been expanded with even more functions. This versatile player allows you to enjoy high definition UPnP™ streaming, AirPlay, AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Bluetooth (apt X HD), Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Qobuz, Roon compatibility, internet radio and multiroom streaming. In addition, it has digital and USB inputs for more traditional connections. All this makes the ND5 XS 2 the perfect partner for one of our integrated amplifiers.
The ND5 XS 2 is designed with carefully selected and matched components, an oversized toroid transformer and decoupled PCB boards, all of which are part of classic Naim engineering. Naim has paid great attention to detail to ensure that the player delivers natural and engaging sound quality from all sources. With the ND5 XS 2, you get a player you can trust when it comes to delivering the best possible sound experience.
The ND5 XS 2's streaming section uses the latest Naim low-noise, high-speed low-voltage differential (LVDS) network card to route the digital audio signal. The increased speed can decode all HD audio formats with up to 32 bit/384 kHz or DSD128. Instead of the source acting as the digital timing master, Naim's new streaming board turns things around and gives their DAC clock control over the audio stream. The data is integer-over-sampled in a SHARC DSP with incredible 40-bit accuracy before being fed to the PCM1791A Burr-Brown digital-to-analog converter.
Developing a new streaming platform was one of the biggest projects Naim has ever taken on. Naim engineers across all disciplines - electronics, industrial, acoustics and mechanics - worked for three years to create a system that could take advantage of online services such as TIDAL and Spotify, while adding future-proof flexibility through Chromecast built-in. Supporting faster data rates with dual-band Wi-Fi and the latest 802.11ac protocol, this robust platform was designed for the highest performance at every level.
