Sumiko Rainier - Quiet MM pickup with a dynamic, natural and transparent sound image
Rainier is the introductory model in Sumiko's latest generation of pickups in the Oyster series, where you get a large, detailed and transparent sound image. The pickup is designed on the classic principles and the innovative technologies, which are shown with the resonance-optimized housing, which ensures that external resonances are directed away from the engine. It provides a natural sound image with a hint of warmth, where all the micro-details, nuances and subtleties of the music are preserved, so that the instruments and vocals are clearly positioned and separated.
The recommended needle pressure is 2.0 grams, and its ½” mounting makes it compatible with the vast majority of turntables and RIAA amplifiers. The needle tab is aluminum with a 0.3 x 0.7mm elliptical needle grind, which is mounted in a pickup housing with high quality copper coils.
A pickup series for quality-conscious vinyl enthusiasts
Rainier, Olympia and Moonstone are the latest generation of pickups in the Oyster series, created for the quality-conscious music lover. It builds on, improves and refines the sound quality that Sumiko owners have enjoyed for more than 40 years. The three models offer a unique opportunity to experience a "black background", which makes all the details appear with a clarity that is normally only found with Moving Coils pickups.
The new generation within the Oyster series features the latest innovations in pickup design that effectively address the issues of resonance. The pickup housing spreads and dissipates the resonance, so that a sound image is created that is transparent, natural and detailed. The sound is natural and there is plenty of air around the voices and instruments, so it is easy to locate their position in the room.
Good upgrade options
Rainier, Olympia and Moonstone have interchangeable styluses (pickup fronts) that fit each other. If you need to upgrade from Rainier at a later stage, you can simply replace the stylus with an Olympia or Moonstone model. It has never been more future-proof and easier to upgrade a pickup than this.
